Financing of health care
Health insurance guarantees adequate health and social security during illness or injury, since it covers costs for risks in case one gets ill, injures themselves or have other medical needs.
Compulsory health insurance enables insured persons to enforce rights to health care services, medicines, medical and technical devices and to financial compensation such as sickness benefit during temporary absence from work, funeral allowances and death allowances and reimbursement of travel expenses related to asserting the right to health care services.
In accordance with the applicable regulations, health care services are covered by the compulsory health insurance fully (100%) or partially. If the compulsory health insurance does not cover a service fully, the insured individual must pay the difference to the full value of the service by themselves or can obtain insurance for the difference. In this case, the difference is covered by the insurance company with which the insured individual concluded supplementary health insurance.
The payment of health care services is provided from the compulsory health insurance in full for the treatment and rehabilitation of:
- children, pupils and students in regular schooling,
- children and adolescents with physical and mental disabilities,
- children and adolescents with head trauma and brain damage.
